The Alfadanga Mosque was built by MTA for the Buraich Maulvi Bari family. Their history dates back to the time of Mughal Emperor Akbar. On the property is a 250-year-old house secured by a boundary wall and a portico. Just outside the entrance to the courtyard was an old mosque that, although it was a simple shed, was much visited. When the family decided to redevelop the entire site—Architect Abu Sayeed undertook the renovation of the house—the plan to build a new mosque also emerged. MTA designed the prayer hall with a span of 13 meters made of load-bearing bricks. A continuous concrete 2,5 m high lintel ties the entire structure together. Openings in the walls allow daylight to enter the space, creating a play of light and shadow and providing a spiritual atmosphere. The extended pedestal on the forecourt is intended as a gathering place for villagers. Unlike the Bait-ur-Rouf mosque, which has only narrow openings, the Alfadanga Mosque was designed as a pavilion that allows a visual connection to the green surroundings. With its simplicity and chosen material, it is also in direct dialogue with the restored residential building, which has a brick façade.
